This past weekend saw Eleven Sprocket riders Rich Dean and Craig Lane standing on the top step of the podium in their respective events. Rich Dean took the overall win at the North Midland Championships in some classic Yorkshire weather conditions whilst Craig Lane overcame a mechanical on the bike leg to claim victory in his class at the early season Epworth Triathlon.
NORTH MIDLAND TT CHAMPIONSHIPS
On a testing rolling 21 mile course Rich Dean showed exceptional strength to take the overall win.
The course was a 21 mile out and back with a short slightly lumpy loop that was repeated twice thrown in halfway for good measure - described later by Rich as 'a bit sticky'. The unique course style meant that the cross winds later became a testing head wind and then a roaring tail wind for the return leg. Combined with the changing weather conditions of sun, rain and hail it made for a tough race. Once on the homeward bound stretch, travelling South down Stocksbridge bypass with tail wind, saw Rich achieving an eye watering 56mph. The ESP ARO 60T he uses features a 25mm toroidal profile which provides unsurpassed stability and improves handling in windy conditions, ideal for this style of course. A great ride and the start of a strong season.
EARLY EPWORTH TRIATHLON
Craig Lane won his category and finished in the top 10 overall at an event that was also his first race of the season - Epworth Triathlon. Even after suffering a mechanical on the bike leg which left him with a trailing brake, he maintained his lead which he then extended with a strong run. A great start to the season. A total time of 1:02:22 for the the 400mtr Swim / 20Km Bike / 5K Run and a strong start to the season.
